EPISODE III
A short experimental dance film with original soundtrack by composer Mary Sutton on synthesizer and costumes created by Sarah Baker and Julia Calabrese.
Episode III was a collaboration of an all female crew in Portland, Oregon. Jin Camou and Julia Calabrese have been dancing and performing together over the last 5 years. Episode III (following episode 1 and 2) is the third and final installment in the trilogy of performances, III being the only video performance. The two dancers approached me to shoot a video of their alien characters in the Oregon Desert in January 2017 to be premiered at an annual arts festival Spaceness, in February 2017. The two days of shooting and few weeks of editing were a fun and collaborative process. Mary Sutton, a classically trained freelance musician also from Portland, Oregon was asked to score the piece. First, live at the premiere on her synthesizer then recorded and mastered for the final piece online.
In this visual performance they have returned to their home planet and beam a cinematic love note back to Earth.
Episode III was made possible with equipment provided by Open Signal, formerly known as Portland Community Media, an organization that empowered thousands of Portlanders to access video and television technology during its 35-year history.
